To my sweet readers,
It’s almost time to bid goodbye to 2017- we have less than 24 hours! I’m going to keep this final open letter for the year short and sweet.
First of all, thank you all so much for supporting me and Handmade Hearts. This blog and the people that I’ve connected with because of it mean the world to me! Writing this blog taught me to open up in ways that I couldn’t even imagine doing a short 8 months ago. Creating Handmade Hearts allowed me to learn to have faith in people again (more on that in a later post), which only changed my life for the better.
I talked about this in extent during my last post, but I have many many exciting plans during 2018! A couple I didn’t mention include participating in my first blogging challenge (comment if you want details on how you can do it too), and joined several blogging groups so that I can connect with other bloggers! I’ve met so many great people.
I also started writing my first recipe for “Your Comfort Food But Better” which I also mentioned in my last post! It’s a mini series I’m trying out on this blog that focuses on making better-for-you versions of everyone’s favorite comfort foods! If you have a comfort food you want me to try, comment below! Also comment if you have a recipe you really liked that you want me to try!
Another thing that I mentioned earlier this week in an Instagram post was another one of my New Years Resolutions- wearing less makeup, and wearing makeup less often. There were several reasons why I made this decision, the first and foremost being that I really believe people should be able to appreciate themselves in their own true skin- pimples, scars and all. My skin right now has a ton of blemishes, but that’s mostly because I haven’t been taking care of it like I should, and I’ve been covering it up with makeup so it can’t breathe! Makeup is so much fun to put on, but it’s expensive!  I figured that if the only reason I put on makeup was to make my skin look better, if I worked on making my skin actually look better, I’d have less of a need to wear it in the first place, and I’d save money! It doesn’t take a lot to take care of your skin, either, and committing to making your skin better means committing to being healthier in general! Your skin reflects what you put in your body. If you put good in your body, your body will look good! Anyways, maybe those of you reading this aren’t skin care fanatics, but I’m excited because I know it’s going to be worth it!

This is Me.This time last year, I was learning to contour. Over the last year #2017, I experimented on my face every day, trying to contour perfectly and look like one of those women with thousands of followers and perfect makeup everyday. I’ll be the first to admit- makeup is fun!! But I’ll also be the first to admit that as much fun as I had experimenting with my look throughout the last year, my makeup also became my mask. I am flawed, as is every part of me but slowly I’m learning to love every part of me! One of the biggest lessons I learned over the last year is that there is a great strength to being vulnerable, especially when you live in a social world that pushes you to try to be perfect. There is also great opportunity there, because the more vulnerable you make yourself, the more opportunity you have to continue to become a better person. My goal for #2018 and the #new year is to continue to find ways to make myself vulnerable, and to continue to get better. One of the ways I’m going to do that is by the wearing less makeup and also wearing makeup less often. You can check out my goals post for next year by clicking the link in my bio! Anyways, I said I was going to keep this short and sweet, but here I am so far down from where I started!
