D.I.Y's and Advice

Day 1 of Holiday Crafting Week!

Spread the love

Dear Readers,
You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting to do this, or how excited I am to be sharing this little project of mine with you all! Here is the first project that I tried on my holiday D.I.Y List- making adorable mugs and hot cocoa kits!
DIYday1.12
These are most of the things that I will be using this year to make holiday gifts. I spent a long time shopping around today, and I ended up staying under budget! There might be a few more things I still need to get, but who knows!

I went to Michaels and found these great Vinyls that you can stick on to things. I chose to stick them onto mugs, which I got from Daiso (if you’ve never visited a Daiso before, definetely go check it out). For this project, I also bought some peppermint hot cocoa mix and marshmallows. Here is the complete list of supplies that I used for this project:
-Vinyls
Paint Pens
-Plain White Mugs
-an Iron
-Rubbing Alcohol + Paper Towels
-Scrapbook Paper
These Vinyls didn’t come with any instructions, but after finding YouTube tutorials, I was good to go. All I had to do was stick the letters and the adhesive paper that was on them right onto the mug, press down firmly and make sure all the letters are stuck properly. This was a little hard for me to do because the mugs were smaller than I wanted them to be, and so sometimes the lettering on the vinyl didn’t fit properly over the curves. The ironing helped here to smoothen things out
I did a couple of the mugs without vinyls, though. These were a lot of fun too!
I made this one for one of my roommates, who tells the rest of us everyday that she “isn’t fully human” until she’s had her coffee. I found this idea on Pinterest and I had to try it. Look at how cute it was!
I messed up a lot on the cups I did by hand- but that’s why its great to have rubbing alcohol handy. Rubbing alcohol will take off the paint pens’ ink and give you a nice clean slate, so you can keep decorating without any worry of mess-ups! If you don’t have rubbing alcohol, try nail polish remover.
To make the hot cocoa kits, I put some hot cocoa mix and some marshmallows in small bags. Then, I stapled some scrapbooking paper over the bags to make them presentable.

I chose hot cocoa because I do believe it is better for your health than caffeine- I gave up drinking coffee almost a year ago now, because I realized the caffeine in the coffee was making me anxious. Besides that, I’ve never felt coffee kickstart my system or anything like that, so I just generally don’t drink it. I prefer hot cocoa, which is why I used it in this gift idea! Hot cocoa is one of my favorite comfort foods (drinks, I should say)- its creamy, liquid chocolate! Who wouldn’t love that?
When I make hot cocoa, I like to do about half a cup of water, half a cup of almond milk (I like it better than regular milk), 3 tablespoons of hot cocoa mix and some whipped cream or marshmallows. For extra sweetness, I like adding brown sugar or honey. How do you like your hot cocoa?
Anyways, that’s it for this DIY idea! What ideas have you all been trying? I’d love to see. also, check out my Pinterest where I’m pinning all of the things I’m trying and all of the things I want to try!
Stay in touch! Feel free to share with me the ideas you all have been trying. Bye for now!
Lots of love,
Aarti
